Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova women's swimming and diving team defeated Richmond on Friday afternoon at the Pavilion by a score of 187-110. The Wildcats are now 6-2 in dual meets this season.

Villanova's 200-yard medley relay team of Darby Goodwin, Brooke Bruno, Mackenzie Niness and Taylor Wilson started the meet with a first place finish, taking the top spot a time of 1:46.57. Wilson also picked up a win in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 52.23.

Goodwin broke her own pool record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.66, and teammate Gabby Daigneault finished just behind her to take second in the event. Goodwin also raced to a first place finish in the 200-yard backstroke.

Emily Mayo, Caitlin Daday, Christine Sullivan and Erin Merkle took the top four spots in the 1000-yard freestyle. Mayo touched the wall first in a time of 10:16.25, edging Daday by .67 seconds. Daday and Mayo flipped placed in the 500-yard freestyle, as Daday won the event by less than a second over Mayo.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Alexa Fabbri, Jessie Randolph and Mary Snyder finished 1-2-3. Fabbri also claimed the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, winning in times of 23.93 and 57.31, respectively.

Brooke Bruno continued her success in the 100-yard breaststroke, taking the top spot in a time of 1:06.82. The 200-yard butterfly was a tightly contested race, as Mackenzie Niness won by one one-hundredth of a second over teammate Christine Sullivan with a time of 2:05.90.

Bridie Dunn earned second place honors in the one meter dive, finishing with a score of 246.97. Dunn also had a third place finish in the three meter dive, tallying a score of 240.38.

Villanova returns to action next week on Saturday, Jan. 28 to face West Virginia. The meet will be held at the Pavilion.
