Villanova Has Five Game Winning Streak Snapped At Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Villanova Wildcats traveled to Washington, D.C., on Saturday, Jan. 28, where the team's five-game winning streak came to end with a 54-49 loss to the Georgetown Hoyas. With the loss, Villanova falls to 11-10 overall and 6-4 in Big East play, while the Hoyas improve to 13-7 overall and 5-5 in league play.

Georgetown led 43-41 with 7:03 remaining in the fourth quarter when the Hoyas made three-of-four from the foul line to increase the lead to 46-41 at the 6:03 mark. Villanova then responded with six straight points to take a 47-46 lead with 3:35 on the clock. The six points came on three-point field goals by sophomore guard Adrianna Hahn and sophomore forward Jannah Tucker.

The Hoyas regained the lead on their next possession when sophomore guard Dionna White was fouled on a drive to the basket. The two White free throws gave Georgetown a 48-47 advantage. Following a Villanova turnover, White increased the Hoya lead to 50-47 with 2:42 to go when she scored on a driving lay-up.

Villanova had a chance to make it a one point game, but senior forward Samantha Wilkes missed both foul shots after being fouled on a drive to the basket. White then gave Georgetown a 54-49 lead when she went two-of-two from the free throw stripe.

Tucker made it a one possession game on Villanova's next trip down the court when she drained a pull-up jumper. Villanova then forced a turnover and had the ball down three with under a minute remaining. The Wildcats got a wide open look to tie the game, but freshman Kelly Jekot's three-ball went halfway down before spinning out. Wilkes was able to grab the offensive rebound and feed junior guard Alex Louin who was fouled in the act of shooting. Louin would miss both free throws with 39 seconds to play.

Georgetown ran the shot clock down and would put the game away when Dorothy Adomako converted a driving lay-up with 18 seconds to go. The Adomako bucket would make it a 54-49 game.

In the loss, Louin led the Wildcats with 11 points to go with six rebounds, four assists, three blocks and a steal. Tucker finished with 10 points and three steals, while Jekot had nine points and four rebounds.

Georgetown was paced by White who had a game-high 21 points. Faith Woodard added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Hoyas.

For the game, Villanova shot 34.0 percent from the field (17-of-50), 25.9 percent from three-point range (7-of-27) and 44.4 percent from the foul line (8-of-18), while the Hoyas were 18-of-61 from the floor (29.5%), 2-of-9 from long distance (22.2%) and 16-of-18 from the charity stripe (88.9%). Georgetown owned a 46-35 advantage on the backboards.

Villanova returns to action on Friday, Feb. 3, when the Wildcats host the Creighton Bluejays. Tip-off at The Pavilion is set for 7 p.m.
