Nov. 27, 2017 VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats and Kansas Jayhawks have staged a series of memorable battles in the 21st century. Now, there are two more on tap as the schools today announced a two game series to begin at Allen Field House in 2018-19 with a second meeting set for the Wells Fargo Center in the 2019-20 season.
"We're incredibly excited to renew a series with one of the most storied programs in college basketball," stated Villanova Director of Athletics Mark Jackson. "These are games the Nova Nation and college basketball fans around the country will have circled on their calendars."
Villanova will play at Kansas on Dec. 15, 2018. Then, on Dec. 21, 2019 the Jayhawks will meet the Wildcats at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
The all-time series between the two schools is tied at 3-3. Five of those games have taken place in the last 13 years, most recently a matchup in the 2016 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight, where the Wildcats outlasted the Jayhawks 64-59 en route to the school's second national championship.
Villanova's other victories over Kansas came in 2013 at the Battle 4 Atlantis (63-59) and in 2005 at the Wells Fargo Center (83-62). The Jayhawks picked up a 2008 NCAA Sweet 16 win over the 'Cats (72-57) and a 2004 triumph in Villanova's only visit to Allen Field House (86-79).
"We have great respect for Coach Self and the Kansas program," stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright. "The games we have played against Kansas have been some of the most memorable non-conference games in our time here. Every time we have faced Kansas, it has made our team better and we know that will be the case when we meet again."
