Set 1:
St. John's got off to a quick start with three straight points. Villanova fought back, but St. John's remained in control to a 10-6 lead. The Wildcats responded back with three straight points on kills from Mallory Potts and Allie Olsonoski (New Orleans, La.) to bring them within one at 10-9. The Red Storm held on to a one point lead up to 13-12 before scoring three straight to take a 16-12 lead. Villanova got the score within two at 18-16 following an Emma Decker service ace, but St. John's took four of the next five points to lead 22-17 late. Villanova fought back, scoring three straight and even getting the score within two at 23-21. St. John's then scored two straight to close out the set 25-21.
Set 2:
Villanova got out to the first big lead in the second set, leading 10-6 after three straight points from three different Wildcats. St. John's took a timeout, then rattled off three straight points of their own to come within one at 10-9. Villanova got the lead back to four at 16-12, but St. John's answered with another three points to trail 16-15. The Wildcats led by three at 21-18, but the Red Storm scored five straight points to take a late 23-21 lead forcing a Villanova timeout. The Wildcats were able to tie the set at 24-24, but St. John's closed out the set 26-24 with two straight points.
Set 3:
Villanova got out to a 3-1 lead following kills from Remy Fairchild and Myah Massenburg (Glen Allen, Va.). The teams went back and forth to a 9-9 tie before the Wildcats scored two straight to take an 11-9 lead. St. John's then went on a 7-1 run to take a 17-13 lead late in the set. Villanova scored two points on a kill from Fairchild and a St. John's attack error, but the Red Storm took three of the next four points to lead 20-16. The Wildcats made a run, scoring four straight to tie the set at 20-20 to force a St. John's timeout on kills from Massenburg and Emma Decker (LaGrange, Ill.). The teams tied again at 21-21, but the Red Storm took four out of the next five points to close out the set 25-22.
Following the match, Head Coach Josh Steinbach stated, "It's a disappointing loss for us after such a good win last night. We needed a more consistent performance without Allie (Loitz) and we didn't get it. It makes our road to making the playoffs tougher, but we'll just have to get better for next Friday."

Villanova travels to DePaul and Marquette next weekend for their last road trip of the regular season. They return home the weekend of the 17th for matches against Creighton and Providence.
