LOS ANGELES, CaL. - On Friday night, Villanova senior Josh Hart (Silver Spring, Md.) added one more trophy to an overflowing collection as he was named the winner of the Julius Erving Award as the nation's top small forward.
The award was presented to him as part of the ESPN Wendy's College Basketball Awards Show, held here in downtown Los Angeles.
A consensus first team All-American, Hart helped lead the Wildcats to a 32-4 record in 2016-17. The product of the Sidwell Friends School was named the BIG EAST Player of the Year and the Most Outstanding Player at the BIG EAST Tournament (Dave Gavitt Award). Over his four seasons he took part in 129 Villanova victories.
Friday night's ceremony, which also included the presentation of the John R. Wooden Award to the nation's top player - that went to Frank Mason III of Kansas - capped a busy 48 hours for Hart. On Thursday, he and South Carolina women's Wooden Award finalist A'ja Wilson visited the set of the ABC daytime program, "General Hospital" to tape a fun segment that aired as part of Friday night's show.
