No. 10 Creighton defeats Villanova 3-1

Decker passes 3,000 assists

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The women's volleyball team fell to the No. 10 Creighton Bluejays Saturday night at Jake Nevin Field House 3-1.

With the loss the Wildcats fall to 11-10 and 4-5 in BIG EAST matches. The Bluejays improve to 16-4 and 8-0 in conference play.

Head coach Josh Steinbach on the match, "I thought we played well we just didn't play well in some key moments especially in set three. So we will just have to get better and we are looking forward to next weekend."

Junior setter Emma Decker had 42 assists. With her twenty second assist of the night Decker passed over 3,000 assists for her career.

Steinbach on Decker's 3,000th assist, "Emma has been great for us, she has been super consistent. Obviously when you hit a 3,000 assist mark you've been doing a good job. She has been a special athlete in our gym. Glad to have her on my team."

Freshman outside hitter Clare Delaplane led the Wildcats with 18 kills. Junior libero Regan Lough had 23 digs.

The opening set started off back and forth with the score tied at 10. The Bluejays went on a 6-0 run to extend their lead to 21-15. The Wildcats were not able to make up this ground and lost the first set to Creighton 19-25.

Villanova took the first three points to start set number two. The Bluejays would tie the set up at 7. The two teams would battle back and forth and the match would be tied again at 11. The Wildcats went on a 6-2 run to lead 17-13. Villanova would continue to lead throughout the rest of the way and won the second set 25-20.

Just live the previous two sets, it was back and forth to begin the set. The largest lead throughout the set for either team was three points. With the score tied at 18, the Bluejays went on a 4-1 run to lead 22-19. Creighton would go on to take the third set 25-22.

Villanova led 7-4 to start the fourth set but later Creighton went on a 4-0 run to tie the match at 11. The Bluejays used another run to lead 16-12. With the score 16-19 Creighton, the Bluejays extended their lead to 17-24 and won the set 17-25.

The Wildcats will return to action on Friday October 19th at St. John's and then Saturday at Seton Hall.
