QUEENS, N.Y. – The Villanova women's volleyball team fell 3-0 at the St. John's Red Storm on Friday night. With the loss the Wildcats fall to 11-11 and 5-5 in BIG EAST matches. The Red Storm improve to 17-8 and 6-4.
Junior setter Emma Decker dished out 33 assists. Junior libero Regan Lough had digs had 17 digs.
Senior outside hitter Darcy Wolf led the Wildcats with a season-high 11 kills.
In the opening set was back and forth to begin the match. The Red Storm got out to an early lead with the Wildcats trailing 6-10. The Wildcats came back and took the lead 15-13. The teams would battle back and forth, and the match would be tied up at 20 and then again at 25. Both teams had multiple set points attempts but were not able to close out the set. St. John's would end up taking the first set 33-31.
Villanova jumped out to a 9-2 lead but the Red Storm would rally back off a 10-2 run to take the lead 12-11. The teams would battle back and forth and tie the set up at 20. The Red Storm would win the next five points to win the set 25-20.
After leading 5-3, St. John's went on a series of runs in the third set to increase their lead. The Wildcats cut it to a two point match but the Red Storm went on a 5-0 run to lead 19-12. St. John's would go on to win the set 25-18.
The Wildcats return to action tomorrow night at Seton Hall. The match starts at 7:00 p.m. Live stats and live streaming will be available for fans to follow along the action.
