SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Villanova women's volleyball team sweeps the Seton Hall Pirates 3-0 on Saturday night. The Wildcats improve to 12-11 and 5-6 in the BIG EAST. While the Pirates fall to 8-16 and 3-8 in conference matches.
Freshman outside hitter Clare Delaplane led the Wildcats with 13 kills. She also had five digs.
Junior setter Emma Decker had 39 assists and three blocks. Junior libero Regan Lough led the Wildcats with 19 digs.
The Wildcats got out to a 10-8 lead to start the match. The teams would continue to battle back and forth, Villanova would extend their lead to 19-14 after a 4-0 scoring run. Seton Hall would counter back with a 5-0 run to make it 23-22 Villanova. The Wildcats took two of the next three points to win the set 25-23.
Seton Hall took the first four points of the second set but the Wildcats won the next three points to make it a one point match. Villanova later went on a 5-0 run to take the lead 11-9 but the Pirates responded with a 4-0 run. The Wildcats retook the lead with a 3-0 run of their own to lead 14-13. With the score tied at 16, Villanova went on a 5-0 run to lead 21-16. Seton Hall would cut Villanova's lead to one point but the Wildcats won the set 25-23.
The third set started off back and forth. With the Wildcats trailing 12-13, Villanova went on a 3-0 run to retake the lead. But Seton Hall countered with a 4-0 run to retake the lead 15-17. The Wildcats tied the set up at 20 and then led 21-20. The teams would trade the next few points back and forth. With the score tied at 23, the Wildcats took the next two points to win the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.
The Wildcats return to action on Friday October 26 at Georgetown with the match starting at 5:00 p.m.
