Andrew Marston Named BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week

Villanova junior was the runner-up at the Princeton Invitational last week

NEW YORK—Junior Andrew Marston (Wayne, Pa.) was named the BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week in an announcement made by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.  Marston led Villanova with a runner-up finish at the Princeton Invitational last week.  He is the second member of the Wildcats to earn BIG EAST weekly honors this season.

In a field of 20 teams and more than 200 competitors, Marston covered the 8000 meter course at West Windsor Fields in 24:03.5.  He was the top Villanova finisher for the first time this season and was part of a 2-3 finish with classmate Casey Comber at the top of the Wildcats lineup.  Villanova finished second in the team standings at the meet and had all five of its scoring runners place in the top 20 overall.

Marston opened the season with a 10th place finish at the Main Line Invitational on September 14 and then was the second Wildcats runner at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational two weeks later.  He has been an All-BIG EAST and a Mid-Atlantic All-Region performer in each of the last two seasons, and was also an individual qualifier for the NCAA Championships the last two years.

Villanova returns to action when it competes in the BIG EAST Championships on October 27 at Northview Church in Carmel, Ind.
