VILLANOVA, Pa. – The women's volleyball team will travel this weekend to take on the Providence Friars on Friday night and at the No. 9 Creighton Bluejays on Sunday afternoon. Both matches will be livestreamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network and live stats will be available.
Head coach Josh Steinbach on the upcoming matches, "Down to two weekends left, it is a big weekend for us. We are just playing one match at a time. Try to get the first one first so we are focused on Providence. We haven't played particularly well up there the past couple years so we are going to have to play a solid match. They gave us trouble here and we are hoping to serve and pass well up there."
The Wildcats enter the weekend with a record of 14-12 and 7-7 in the BIG EAST Conference. Last weekend Villanova splits their matches against Marquette and DePaul. The Wildcats fell to Marquette on Friday night 3-1 and defeated DePaul 3-1 on Saturday.
Villanova is currently in a three-way tie for fourth place in the BIG EAST standings with Georgetown and Xavier. The Wildcats own the tie-breaker with Georgetown. The top four teams in the conference qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament at the end of the season.
The Friars have a record of 8-17 and 2-12 in conference play. Providence lost both of their matches last weekend against Seton hall and St. John's. The last time Providence and Villanova met was on October 12th at Jake Nevin Field House. The Wildcats defeated the Friars 3-1.
Creighton has a record of 22-4 and is 14-0 in BIG EAST matches. Last weekend Creighton swept St. John's and Seton. Villanova and Creighton met earlier this season, with Creighton winning 3-1.
Earlier this week, the BIG EAST named junior middle blocker Allie Olsonoski to their Weekly Honor Roll Team. Olsonoski averaged 3.31 points and 2.62 kills per set while hitting .526 over the two matches last weekend.
The Wildcats will return home next weekend to play Butler on Friday November 16th and Xavier on Saturday November 17th. The match against Xavier will be Senior Night.
