MILWAUKEE, WISC. ââ'¬" In women's basketball action on Friday afternoon, the Villanova Wildcats traveled to Milwaukee, Wisc., where they lost to the Marquette Golden Eagles by a score of 90-69. With the loss, Villanova falls to 20-6 overall and 10-5 in Big East play, while Marquette improves to 18-8 overall and 12-3 in conference action.

Marquette led 52-45 with 2:58 remaining in the third quarter when the Wildcats scored five straight points to slice the lead to 52-50. The five Villanova points, included a conventional three-point play by senior Alex Louin and a lay-up by sophomore forward Mary Gedaka.

The Golden Eagles responded by scoring seven consecutive points to open up a 59-50 lead with 52 seconds left in the quarter. Junior guard Natisha Hiedeman led the Marquette charge by scoring five of her team's seven points. Two free throws by Villanova guard Adrianna Hahn finished the third quarter scoring as Marquette led 59-52 after three.

Following a three ball by Louin that cut the Golden Eagle lead to 65-57 with 7:10 on the clock, Marquette used a 16-6 spurt to put the game away and take an 81-63 advantage at the 4:01 mark. Hiedeman had seven points in the decisive run, including two lay-ups and a three-point field goal.

The first quarter went back and forth with neither team able to gain separation. Villanova went 6-of-16 from the field in the opening stanza, while Marquette shot 7-of-20 as the score was tied at 17-17 after one.

With the score deadlocked at 29-29 with 4:55 left in the second quarter, junior forward Jannah Tucker drained a triple from the right wing to give the Wildcats a 32-29 lead. Marquette then scored nine of the final 11 points of the quarter to take a 39-34 halftime advantage.

Louin led the Wildcats in the loss with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field, including a 2-of-6 effort from three-point range and a 4-of-4 performance from the foul line. Gedaka and senior center Megan Quinn both reached double figures with 10 points each.

Marquette was paced by Hiedeman who had a game-high 26 points and Erika Davenport who finished with 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Allazia Blockton and Danielle King had 15 points apiece.

For the game, Villanova was 27-of-69 from the field (39.1%), 7-of-31 from three-point range (22.6%) and 8-of-9 from the foul line (88.9%), while Marquette shot 52.8 percent from the floor (38-of-72), 42.1 percent from behind the arc (8-of-19) and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe (6-of-9). The Golden Eagles owned a slim 39-36 advantage on the backboards.

Villanova returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 18, with a game at DePaul. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. eastern time.
