Box Score 2 Feb. 24, 2018 Final Stats
MADERIA BEACH, Fla. - The Villanova softball fell in both games today against Arkansas 9-0 and Nicholls State 3-2. Villanova fell to 1-3 on the season after today's losses. The team looks to rebound tomorrow against Kent State. Game time is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
Villanova vs. Arkansas
The first inning went quickly as both teams thanks to strong pitching went down one, two, three to make the whole inning scoreless. In the second Arkansas would put two runners on after a leadoff walk and a single. After an unfortunate error the Razorbacks would be able to capitalize to take the lead 1-0.
Strong pitching continued for Arkansas in the second as the Wildcats again went down one, two, three. After Arkansas began the third with two runners on, a homerun by Arkansas put the Razorbacks ahead 4-0. Caitlyn Dickman would come out of the game, she finished her day with two innings pitched allowing four hits and four runs, three earned with one walk and no strikeouts. The end of the top of the third would conclude with Arkansas ahead 6-0.
In the fourth Arkansas would continue to add to there lead after a solo home run and a throwing error which allowed a runner to score from third making the score 8-0.
Arkansas would add one more to the lead to close the game in the fifth inning with the final score being 9-0. Caitlyn Dickman received her second loss at 0-2 and Arkansas Haff improved to 5-0.
Villanova vs. Nicholls State
The first few innings were a real pitchers duel between freshman Anissa Amarillas and Nicholls Alexis LaBure. The first run of the game didn't come until the second inning in which Nicholls took the lead 1-0 after a double and an RBI gave the Colonels the lead. But Villanova would strike right back after Jordan Olivarez reached on an error and moved to second on a wild pitch, Brittany Husk came through with a single to give tie the game up 1-1 after three.
More great pitching by Amarillas kept the game close as in the fourth inning Natalia Segovia would come into score after she lead off the inning with a single and advanced on a wild pitch. Villanova led 2-1 heading into the bottom of fifth.
Nicholls would come back and tie it up though after a single and some advancement on the bases, soon the score was tied back up at 2-2.
In the seventh Villanova went down one, two, three before Nicholls had its chance to win the game. Nicholls would get a double and single to win the ball game as the Colonels improved to 8-3 on the season and Villanova fell to 1-3.
Anissa Amarillas pitched all seven innings, giving up 12 hits and three runs.

Villanova will face Kent State tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. as they try to clinch one more win before the flight back tomorrow afternoon.
