Final Regular Season Road Test Comes Wednesday at Seton Hall

Feb. 27, 2018

VILLANOVA, Pa. ââ'¬" The 30th game of the regular season and final road game arrive for Villanova (25-4 overall, 12-4 BIG EAST) Wednesday night in Newark, N.J. The No. 4/5 Wildcats will travel west on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and north on the New Jersey Turnpike as they get ready to meet Seton Hall (20-9 overall, 9-7 BIG EAST) at the Prudential Center.

Tipoff is set for just after 8:30 p.m.

FS1 will carry the national television broadcast with announcers Gus Johnson and Bill Raftery on site. The Villanova radio call will come from Ryan Fannon and Whitey Rigsby on 610 Sports Radio. The pre-game show begins at 8 p.m.

Both teams went to overtime in their most recent game on Saturday.

Seton Hall outlasted St. John's 81-74 in extra time at Madison Square Garden. It was the Hall's third consecutive victory and came without forward Desi Rodriguez, who suffered an ankle sprain earlier in the week in a win at Providence (that was finished at the Friars' Alumni Hall on Thursday after Wednesday night's clash was suspended in the second half due to slippery court conditions at Dunkin Donuts Center).

Villanova, meanwhile, played its first overtime session of 2017-18 and first since an 82-79 loss to Providence in January 2016, at Creighton. The Bluejays rallied from a 68-60 deficit with 4:30 remaining in regulation to force overtime and then outscored the Wildcats in the fifth period to post an 89-83 win before a sold out crowd at CenturyLink Center.

"That was an incredible effort by Creighton," stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright. "They just outplayed us."

"You know on the road in this league you are going to play in great environments against great teams. You have to be one step ahead to win on the road. We weren't at Creighton and we've been working on that the last few days in practice."

In the first meeting between these two units, the Wildcats broke open a close game in the second half at the Wells Fargo Center earlier this month. Omari Spellman posted one of his nine double-doubles with 26 points and 11 rebounds to help VU post a 92-76 win on Feb. 4.

"Seton Hall is playing very well and we anticipate another very difficult test," stated Wright. "We look forward to it and continuing to try to get better every day."

This contest will close out what has been a frenetic February. It will be Villanova's ninth contest in 28 days ââ'¬" the most the Wildcats have played in a month since March 2016 and the most they have played in the regular season since January 2011.

Villanova will wrap up the regular season on Saturday when it hosts Georgetown at the Wells Fargo Center at 5 p.m. (Fox TV/Fox 29/610 Sports Radio).

The 2017-18 Villanova Men's Basketball season is presented by KeyBank.
