Water Polo Set for trip to California

VILLANOVA, Pa.- The Villanova water polo team (0-5-0) will head heading to California this weekend to compete in the annual Claremont Convergence. The team will be facing four teams over the course of two days. The first day will feature the Wildcats facing Pomona-Pitzer at 4:40 p.m. followed by a match against host Claremont-Mudd Scripps at 8:40 p.m. on Mar.2. On the second day, the team will face La Verne at 2:40 p.m. and Cal-Baptist at 6:40 p.m. on Mar.3.

This is the sixth time the Wildcats have faced Pomona-Pitzer and the Sage Hens lead the series 5-1. The last time the two teams faced each other was in the 2015-16 season when the Wildcats fell in a close match 6-5. Currently Panoma Pitzer is 5-2 and is coming off a win to Whitter. The team will look to senior Morgan McCracken to deliver as she currently leads the team in goals with three.

Against Claremont-Mudd Scripps, Villanova is 0-1 as they fell to the Athena's in the 2009-10 season 6-4. Claremont-Mudd Scripps is currently 3-3 this season as they are coming off a win to Cal Tech. The team looks to senior Jessica Gaffney who led the team in goals in her last game by score a total of three.

Villanova has led the series against La Verne 4-2 and won the last matchup against them 14-6 in the 2014-15 season. La Verne is currently 0-0 as they start they're season on Feb. 28th when they face Chapman.

Cal-Baptist currently leads the series against Villanova 3-0 and last played the Wildcats last season as the Lancers defeated Villanova 8-6. Cal-Baptist is currently 6-8 and coming off a loss to UC Davis 10-9. The team looks to freshman Kira O'Donell as she currently leads the team in goals with 22.

Villanova is coming off competing in the Princeton Invite as they fell to both Princeton and Harvard as well as in an exhibition match against China. The highlight for the Wildcats was that senior Dominique Clark scored four goals against Harvard to keep the game close as Villanova fell 18-12.

After the Claremont Convergence, the team will stay in California as they team faces Whitter on Mar. 5 and Chapman on Mar.6. Play is scheduled to begin at 10:00 p.m ET for both games.
