Brittany Husk Earns Academic All-Area Honors

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Senior shortstop Brittany Husk (Miami, Fla.) was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team in an announcement made on Thursday morning. Husk was one of 10 local student-athletes who were voted onto the team by the sports information offices of 30 schools in the Philadelphia area. It is the first time in her career that Husk has garnered Academic All-Area honors.

Husk was a standout both on and off the field for Villanova during her collegiate career. She graduated this spring from the Villanova School of Business with a major in Finance and a minor in Economics, and has been a three-time selection to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team with this year's squad still to be announced. Husk was also chosen as an NFCA Scholar-Athlete for the 2016-17 academic year.

As a senior this season, Husk earned second team NFCA All-Mideast Region honors and was a second team All-ECAC honoree. She also garnered All-BIG EAST honors for the third consecutive year, including earning first team all-conference honors for the second time in her career. Husk led the Wildcats in runs scored, hits, doubles and stolen bases during the 2018 season. She was a key part of an offense which paced Villanova to a 27-24-2 record and an appearance in the BIG EAST Championship.

Husk started all 53 games of her senior campaign and batted at the top of the lineup all season while finishing the year hitting .376 with a .543 slugging percentage. Her 43 runs scored, 70 hits, 17 doubles and 15 stolen bases were all team highs. Husk also ranked second on the squad in batting average and runs scored (33), while tying for second with four home runs.

She finished her collegiate career as a .345 hitter in 214 games. Her career total included 239 hits, 59 doubles, 11 home runs, 156 runs scored, 98 RBI and 53 stolen bases. Husk broke the Wildcats career records for runs scored and doubles during the 2018 season, and she also graduates ranked second in hits and ninth in runs batted in.

Student-athletes are eligible for Academic All-Area recognition by having a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher in addition to being a significant contributor to their teams. A nominee must also have completed a minimum of two academic semesters at their school. This is the third straight year that Villanova has had at least one student-athlete selected to the Academic All-Area Softball Team.
