MILWAUKEE – The Villanova volleyball team fell to the No. 20 Marquette Golden Eagles 3-0 on Saturday night. With the loss the Wildcats fall to 10-7 and 3-2 in the BIG EAST.
Head coach Josh Steinbach on the match, "We played hard tonight but not cleanly and Marquette is too good for us to be a little off."
Junior setter Emma Decker had 30 assists for the Wildcats. It was her fifth consecutive game with 30 or more assists.
Sophomore outside hitter Mallory Potts and freshman outside hitter Clare Delaplane led the Wildcats with 10 kills.
Junior libero Regan Lough had 12 digs.
In the opening set, the Golden Eagles went on multiple scoring runs to increase their lead over the Wildcats. Marquette would take the opening set 25-10.
The second set started out back-and-forth. The Wildcats led 11-9 but the Golden Eagles tied the set up at 13. The two teams would trade points and the match would be tied again at 18. Marquette and Villanova traded points back and forth again. The Golden Eagles won the set 25-23.
Marquette jumped out to an early lead again leading 12-6. The Wildcats cut into the Golden Eagles' lead, but it wasn't enough as they won the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
Villanova returns to action next Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Xavier and then on Saturday at Butler at 6:00 p.m.
