Perra and Goodwin Sweep BIG EAST Athlete of the Week Awards

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Villanova's junior diver Michael Perra and senior swimmer Darby Goodwin swept this week's BIG EAST Athlete of the Week awards.

Perra was named BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week for the second week in the row after his top finishes in both the 1- and 3-meter dives. Goodwin earned her first recognition of the season after picking up a pair of individual wins in the Wildcats dual meet at UConn. The women walked away with a victory while the men fell to the Huskies.

Perra was named Male Athlete of the Week again after his consecutive sweep on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. In the 1-meter he scored a 298.80 and recorded his second-best score of the season, this score was also 45 points greater than the second-place finisher. His score of 303.45 earned him the top spot on the high board. Perra also currently holds the best scores in both dives in the BIG EAST this season.

Goodwin took control in both backstroke events to help propel the Wildcats past the Huskies. She swam to a first-place finish in the 100-backstroke with a time of 56.71 and touched the wall in the 200-with a time of 2:03.83. Goodwin also earned second place in the 200-yard medley relay with a recorded time of 2:05.21. Her 200-yard medley relay team also placed first with their time of 1:45.55.

Perra, Goodwin and the Wildcats return to action this Friday, Feb. 1 when they host Penn State for the last dual meet of the season. Villanova will host the Nittany Lions at 4 p.m. in the Villanova Swim Complex. The diving competition will begin at 3 p.m.
