Villanova, Pa. – Villanova volleyball will travel across town to take on La Salle in a non-conference matchup Saturday at 7 p.m. Villanova will be looking to bounce back from a loss to St. John's it suffered Wednesday.
Villanova last met La Salle a year ago in the 2018 season opener, a match the Wildcats took 3-0. The Wildcats have enjoyed a lot of success against the Explorers with a 36-4 all-time record and having won 13 in a row dating back to 2001.
La Salle is sitting at 7-8 this season and 2-2 in the A10 with conference wins over Davidson and George Mason. La Salle's offense is led by Samantha Graver with 201 kills and Kathryn Wood with 533 assists. The defense is anchored by Rachel Hess with 232 digs and Marisa Guisti with 46 blocks. The Explorers will be playing the second leg of a back-to-back with Villanova after the take on Duquesne Friday night.
Villanova has been led by
Emma Decker at setter with 10.30 assists/set and
Mallory Potts on the outside with 2.98 kills/set. Potts is coming off double-digit kill performances in back-to-back matches. Senior libero
Regan Lough leads in digs and is currently on the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the fourth time this season.
"Good rivalry with a team that knows us very well," said head coach
Josh Steinbach. "I know we are excited to play again after Wednesday and we will need a focused performance."
This matchup brings an additional, and more personal dimension, as Villanova assistant coach
Jackie Scott faces off with her twin sister and LaSalle assistant coach Maggie Scott. This will be the first time in their lives the two have gone head-to-head on the volleyball court.
