CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Villanova and North Carolina conducted a closed scrimmage Sunday afternoon at the Dean E. Smith Center. The two teams played four periods, including two 20-minute halves and two shorter sessions of six and eight minutes.

Villanova won the first two segments (44-36 in a 20-minute half and 8-7 in a six-minute segment with non-starters), while the Tar Heels won the final two periods (43-36 in a 20-minute half and 18-12 in an eight-minute period that featured zone defenses by both teams).

 "This was a great scrimmage for us," stated Villanova head coach
Jay Wright. "We appreciate the hospitality of Coach Williams and everyone at North Carolina. We learned a lot from North Carolina's competitiveness and teamwork."

Freshman guard
Justin Moore (Fort Washington, Md.) led all scorers over the 54 minutes of action with 39 points. He converted 9-of-12 from beyond the point arc. His 18 points in the opening scrimmage keyed Villanova's victory there. Six points from sophomore forward
Cole Swider were instrumental in the Wildcats' earning the win in the second scrimmage of the day.

Junior forward
Jermaine Samuels contributed 19 points over the course of the day while freshman forward
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl added 16 points and 12 rebounds. Junior guard
Collin Gillespie, still recovering from a broken nose suffered earlier this month, did not participate.

Cole Anthony led UNC with 28 points.

Villanova opens its 2019-20 regular season one week from Tuesday, when Army visits the Finneran Pavilion for an 8:30 p.m. contest (FS1 and 610 ESPN Radio).
