VILLANOVA, Pa. – After delivering one of the 2025-26 BIG EAST season's most memorable performances, Villanova guard
Acaden Lewis on Monday was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the fifth time.
Â
In his first collegiate appearance in his hometown Washington, D.C., Lewis stitched together a brilliant effort to help carry the Wildcats past Georgetown 80-73. The product of Sidwell Friends School connected on 11-of-15 field goal attempts, including enormous 3-pointers in the final three minutes, to help Villanova stave off the Hoyas. The 26 points were a season-high and they were paired with six assists.
Â
For the two games last week, Lewis averaged 18.5 points and 6.0 assists per contest.
Â
Lewis' previous BIG EAST single game high in points came when he scored 20 points in a 76-73 victory at Marquette on Jan. 10 at Fiserv Forum.
Â
Also on Monday, senior center
Duke Brennan (Chandler, Az.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after posting his ninth and tenth double-doubles of the season last week.
Â
The Golden Eagles, fresh from a 70-55 home win over Butler on Saturday, will be at Finneran Pavilion on Tuesday night. Tip is set for just after 7:30 p.m. with the broadcast team of Brian Anderson, Grant Hill and Andy Katz set to call the national telecast on TNT and TruTV. Ryan Fannon and
Whitey Rigsby will have the audio call on the Villanova Sports Radio Network (Fox Sports Radio Philadelphia, iHeart App, SiriusXM channel 388 and the TuneIn App).

Â
Marquette dropped the first nine games it played on Villanova's campus after it joined the BIG EAST in 2005. But it brings a three-game Finneran Pavilion winning streak with it into Tuesday night's action. The Wildcats captured last season's February matchup at Wells Fargo Center, 81-66. That snapped an eight-game Marquette winning streak in the series.
Â
Villanova's perimeter defense figures to be tested Tuesday by a young Golden Eagles' unit that tied a season-high with 14 3-pointers in Saturday's win over the Bulldogs. Chase Ross scored 19 points and freshman Adrian Stevens scored 18 points. The Golden Eagles (9-15 overall, 4-9 BIG EAST) have won three of their last five games.
Â
The Wildcats (18-5 overall, 9-3 BIG EAST), meanwhile, have made strides in defending the perimeter. In nine non-conference games in November and December, a revamped roster playing for a new coaching staff surrendered .385 shooting by its opponents from beyond the 3-point arc. However, after 12 league games, the Wildcats' foes have converted just .294 of their attempts from distance, the top mark in the conference.
Â
That stat has helped Villanova post a 5-1 BIG EAST road record.
Â
"I'm pretty excited about the fact that we have five conference road wins," said Villanova head coach Kevin Wilalrd after Saturday's win.
Â
The Wildcats have fared well at the Finneran Pavilion this season as well, winning 10 of 11 there thus far. Following this clash, Villanova will have just three home games left on the regular season slate, beginning Feb. 21 at Xfinity Mobile Arena against Connecticut.
