VILLANOVA, Pa. – Freshman guard
Bryan Antoine (Tinton Falls, N.J.) has received medical clearance on his surgically repaired right shoulder and will be available this week when Villanova competes in the Myrtle Beach Invitational, it was announced today.
Â
Antoine, a 2019 McDonald's All-American, underwent right shoulder surgery on May 31. He did not begin full practice activity with the Wildcats until after the team's Nov. 5 season opening victory over Army. Antoine was not in uniform last week when Villanova faced Ohio State or Ohio University.
Â
"Bryan has been fully cleared to play in games and we're happy for him," stated head coach
Jay Wright. "He's worked extremely hard in his rehab with
Jeff Pierce and
John Shackleton to get to this point.
Â
"Our plan is to bring Bryan along slowly. He's only just returned to practice and the learning curve is steep for any freshman. Bryan's working hard to catch up and we're going to do all we can to help him in this transition."
Â
Villanova meets Middle Tennessee State Thursday at 11:30 a.m. (ESPN2 and 610 ESPN Radio) at the HTC Center in South Carolina. It will then face Mississippi State or Tulane on Friday with a third game against an opponent to be determined scheduled for Sunday.
Â
The 2019-20 season – Villanova's 100
th college basketball campaign – is presented by Hartford Funds and Coca-Cola.
