Maddy Siegrist Earns BIG EAST Rookie of the Week Honors

Mary Gedaka Earns A Spot On The Honor Roll

NEW YORK – Two Villanova women's basketball players were honored for their play in two games last week. Redshirt freshman forward Maddy Siegrist (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) was named the Big East Rookie of the Week, while senior forward Mary Gedaka (Mullica Hill, N.J.) earned a spot on the Big East Weekly Honor Roll. Siegrist was also named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week.
 
In games against American and Fordham, Siegrist averaged 25.5 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per contest, while shooting .611 from the field. Siegrist had 22 points and eight rebounds in a loss at American and 29 points, six rebounds and three assists in a win at Fordham. The 29 points, which are the most by a Big East rookie since March of 2016, came on 13-of-16 shooting, including a 3-of-5 effort from three-point range. After four games this season, Siegrist is averaging 19.8 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per contest.
 
Gedaka averaged 21.0 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per contest and 3.0 assists per game in the outings last week. Her best effort of the week came at Fordham on Sunday, Nov. 17, when she scored 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting. She also added five rebounds, three assists and a steal in the win over the Rams.
 
Siegrist and Gedaka were a dominant duo in the victory at Fordham when they combined to score 56 of the team's 73 points and connected on 24-of-32 from the field for 75.0 percent.
 
Villanova returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 21, when Manhattan College visits the Finneran Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
