VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova  junior
Jermaine Samuels was honored Monday by both the Philadelphia Big Five and BIG EAST for his work in helping the Wildcats knock off Kansas 56-55 Saturday.
Samuels was tabbed co-Philadelphia BIg Five Player of the Week with Ryan Daly of Saint Joseph's. He was also selected to the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
The native of Franklin, Mass., connected on the game-winning three-pointer in the final seconds of Villanova's 56-55 victory over No. 1 Kansas on Saturday. He finished the game with 15 points and five rebounds, posting 12 points, four rebounds, a steal and an assist all in the second half to help the Wildcats win their fifth in a row.
Also, on Monday, Villanova climbed eight spots in the Associated Press weekly poll, from No. 18 to No. 10. It moved up five spots in the USA Today Coaches poll, from No. 14 to No. 9.
Villanova opens its BIG EAST regular season schedule next Monday, Dec. 30, when it hosts Xavier at 6:30 p.m. at Finneran Pavilion.
The 2019-20 season – Villanova's 100
th college basketball campaign – is presented by Hartford Funds and Coca-Cola.
