NEW YORK – Villanova University redshirt freshman
Maddy Siegrist (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) has been named both the Big East Player and Rookie of the Week for her efforts in Saturday's win at La Salle.
In 35 minutes of action at La Salle, Siegrist tallied the second most points in the history of the Villanova women's basketball program with 41 points on 13-of-19 shooting, a 6-of-10 effort from three-point range and a 9-of-10 performance from the foul line.
The 41 points establishes a new Villanova record for points by a freshman and it represents the most points scored by a Big East player since 2013. The scoring performance is the most points by a Division I rookie this year and the most by a rookie since the 2017-18 season. She also set the Tom Gola Arena record for points by a women's player and the 41 points represent the most ever scored in a women's Big Five game.
Siegrist also pulled-down 10 rebounds against the Explorers for her Big East leading third double-double of the season to go with three assists, three blocks and one steal.
In 10 games this year, Siegrist has scored 20 points or more in six of the 10 games and she currently leads the Wildcats in scoring (22.0 ppg.), rebounding (8.3 rpg.) and field goal percentage (.521).
