Wildcats lose Game One at Virginia 7-2

Due to the weather, the Wildcats are playing double header

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Villanova baseball team fell to the Virginia Cavaliers 7-2 in game one of a double header on Friday afternoon. Virginia improves to 2-3 while Villanova falls to 0-4.  The Wildcats finished the game with four hits.

Getting the start for the Wildcats was senior Jonathan Rosero. In the bottom of the second he got out of a bases loaded jam and Rosero followed it up with a 10 pitch third inning.  Senior Jake Esp came in for Rosero in the bottom of the fifth and would finish the game for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats took the lead in the top of the third after two-out single up the middle by freshman Nick Lorusso who scored junior Tyler Bruno from second base. It was Lorusso's third RBI of the season.

In the bottom of the fourth, Virginia tied the game after a bases loaded walk. The Cavaliers then hit a sacrifice fly to center field to give them a 2-1 lead. Virginia increased their lead with a two out three run home run to left center to make it 5-1.

Virginia started the bottom of the fifth with a lead off home run to left field. Then the Cavaliers had three straight singles to load the bases. Virginia then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to make the score 7-1.

Villanova scored in the top of the eighth to make it 7-2. Senior JP Radvany hit a two out RBI single up the middle scoring junior Ryan Toohers from second base. It was Radvany's third RBI this year.

The Wildcats will look to even the series later this afternoon in game two of the double header.
