Washington, Pa. – In the first game of the day, Villanova fell to Salem by a score of 15-14. In the second game of the day they beat Gannon 14-13.
Salem
Salem was led by Annefleur ten Bloemendal who finished the game with eight goals and two assists on 13 shots. Villanova was led by freshman
Kaysie Stuba who scored on all four of her shots.
The game was close throughout as neither team outscored the other by more than one in every quarter.
Charlotte Curran scored the first goal of the game for Villanova but Salem tied it at 1 shortly after.
The Wildcats led 5-3 in the second quarter but Salem scored three straight to take a 6-5 lead.
Amanda Rice answered back 14 seconds later with a goal to tie it once again.
Salem took a 12-9 lead early in the fourth quarter, but Villanova gave them everything they had.
Malia Gacutan scored a goal with seven minutes left to cut it to two. However, Salem scored two straight to make it a 14-10 game.
Gacutan scored again followed by goals from Rice,
Maria Breen, and
Camille Oswald, but the rally came up just short as the Wildcats couldn't get one more.
Gannon
Villanova was able to grab a win in the second game against Gannon. Four players scored three goals for the Cats including Curran, Murray, Stuba, and
Kate Stenmoen. Rice and Breen buried the other two for Villanova.
Gannon had an 8-7 lead at half, but Villanova outscored them 5-1 in the third quarter. Murray scored the first goal of the second half before Gannon answered back with a goal of their own. The Wildcats then went and scored four goals unanswered to go into the fourth quarter 12-9.
Julia Kredinger scored on a power play for Gannon with just 3:22 left in the game, but Stenmoen found the back of the net with 2:05 left to give the Cats all they would need.
Rachel Jennings started the game for Villanova and allowed eight goals with three saves.
Gaby Palmisano came in to relieve her and allowed five goals with three saves on the way to picking up the win.
Villanova will be back in action tomorrow at 10:30 AM against McKendree before playing Penn State Behrend at 2:15 PM.
