PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Villanova sophomore
Collin Gillespie was selected as the Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Week Monday after helping lead the No. 14/13 Wildcats to a 2-0 week.
Gillespie notched a career-high 30 points in Sunday's 77-65 victory over Georgetown at the Wells Fargo Center. In two games this week, the product of Archbishop Wood High School averaged 21.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per outing while connecting on 10-of-19 attempts from beyond the 3-point arc.
The 6-3 guard was also selected to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday.
"Collin's got that northeast Philly mentality that I love," stated Villanova head coach
Jay Wright on Sunday when asked about his sophomore, who has started all 21 games he has appeared in this season. "He's got a real clear head on his shoulders. He looks at the world simply - do the right thing, give a great day's effort, be a good person. That's about it. It's what he concentrates on and that's the way he plays."
Villanova remains at No. 14 in this week's Associated Press poll and moved up one place in the USA Today Coaches poll, to No. 13.
The Wildcats (18-4 overall, 9-0 BIG EAST) host Creighton Wednesday at the Finneran Pavilion at 8 p.m. (CBS Sports Network and 610 ESPN Radio).
