Claremont, Ca. – Water Polo will ride a three-game win streak into Saturday with wins over Occidental and Caltech on Friday. The Wildcats defeated Occidental 15-6 and Caltech 21-3.
Occidental
Villanova was once again led by
Kaysie Stuba who led the team with four goals and an assist.
Amanda Rice,
Camille Oswald,
Kate Stenmoen, and
Paris Huffman all pitched in with two goals in the game, while
Charlotte Curran,
Kate Murray, and
Malia Gacutan chipped in with a goal of their own.
The Wildcats took control of the game from the very beginning and never looked back. They were up 4-1 after the first quarter and were up 7-1 at halftime. They then scored six goals in the third quarter to extend their lead to 13-1.
Gaby Palmisano got the start and allowed six goals and had eight saves.
Caltech
Similar to Occidental, Villanova was in the drivers seat the whole game and didn't allow Caltech a chance in the game. They jumped out to an early 8-1 lead and didn't look back in the second quarter as they went up 14-2 at halftime. They ended the game scoring seven more goals while allowing just one to give them a 21-3 victory and their third in a row.
Twelve different goal scorers lifted them to their big victory. They were led by Huffman with four, Stuba with three, Curran, Murray, Oswald and
Isabel Herbst with two, and Stenmoen,
Emma Stein,
Caitlin O'Leary,
Maria Breen,
Sophia Scoboria, and
Kylee Giblin with one.
Rachel Jennings gave up just two goals with 13 saves while Palmisano gave up just one goal and had three saves.
Villanova will be back in action tomorrow at 2:30 PM against La Verne and will wrap up the Convergence Tournament with a matchup with Fresno Pacific at 6:15 PM.
