PHILADELPHIA – The Villanova baseball team fell 4-0 at Saint Joseph's on sunny and chilly Tuesday afternoon. Getting the start for the Wildcats, was senior right-handed pitcher Zach Lutner. He pitched two innings giving up two runs on three hits and struck out four batters.
The Wildcats used three more pitchers with each one throwing for two innings. Mike Schwartz replaced Lutner, Schwartz gave up zero hits, walked three while striking out two. Jonathan Rosero was next allowing four hits, one run and struck out two. Jake Esp finished the game for the Wildcats giving up one hit, one run while striking out three.
The Wildcats had five hits on the afternoon with Pat O'Neil leading the team with two hits, both were singles. It was his second game in a row with two or more hits.
In the bottom of the first, the Hawks leadoff the inning with a single up the middle by Heth and then stole second. The next batter singled through the left side to put runners on the corner. The Hawks scored their first run off a wild pitch. Saint Joseph's singled up the middle to make it 2-0
The Hawks in the bottom of the sixth had runners on first and second with one out. Bendo then hit a single through the right side to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the eighth Saint Joseph's had a runner on second with two outs. Bendo tripled to right center field to score the runner and lead 4-0.
The Wildcats next game is a three-game series against LIU-Brooklyn at Villanova Ballpark starting on Friday March 22nd.
