Wildcats Lose Game Two to LIU-Brooklyn 3-0

Series concludes tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - The Villanova baseball team fell to the LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds 3-0 on a cold and windy day at Villanova Ballpark. Both offenses struggled to get hits in the game due to the weather. The wind was blowing in from left field and into right.

The freshman Nick Lorusso got the start for the Wildcats. It was his first home start and second start of the season. Lorusso pitched five innings allowing six hits, one run, one walk while striking out five.

Mike Schwartz and Jonathan Rosero came in relief with Schwartz pitching one and two thirds allowing one hit, one run while striking out two. Rosero pitching two and a third giving up no hits, one run, three walks and two strikeouts.

The Blackbirds got on the board in the top of the third inning. With two outs Smith singled up the middle and then advanced to second after a balk. Vaughn singled up the middle to give LIU-Brooklyn a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth, the Blackbirds had the bases loaded with two outs after a single to third base by Vaughn. Lorusso got the next batter to ground out to Dylan McNary to end inning and get out of the jam.

LIU-Brooklyn started the top of the seventh with a single and then a walk. A sacrifice then moved the runners to second and third with one out. A two-out wild pitch by the Wildcats would score the runner from third to give the Blackbirds a 2-0 lead. The Wildcats got out of the inning after the next batter grounded out to the pitcher.

With one out in the top of the ninth, the Blackbirds got a walk and then the runner stole second. The next batter grounded out and LIU-Brooklyn had runners on second and third. A wild pitch by Villanova would move the runners and score the Blackbirds' third run of the game.

The series will conclude tomorrow with first pitch at 2:00 p.m. Jimmy Kingsbury is getting the start for the Wildcats. His last time out he pitched a complete game shutout and only allowing one hit in a 1-0 win against La Salle.
