Staten Island, N.Y. – Villanova Water Polo fell to La Salle by a score of 14-13 and to Wagner by a score of 26-5.
La Salle
Game one of the day was one where the Wildcats never trailed until late in the third quarter.
Kate Stenmoen got the scoring started less than a minute into the game and she finished with six on the game on eight shots.
The Wildcats held a 7-5 lead heading into half time. The Explorers scored three minutes into the third, but Stenmoen would answer back with a goal of her own.
La Salle then scored two goals in a little over a minute to tie the game at eight. However,
Charlotte Curran would put Villanova back on top with 2:51 left in the third, but 21 seconds later La Salle would tie the game again.
After another Explorer goal,
Kate Murray would tie the game at 10 and that's how the game would enter the fourth.
A Stenmoen and La Salle goal would offset each other and then the Explorers would rally off two straight goals for a 13-11 lead. Stenmoen scored to cut it to one with 3:17 left but La Salle would get one right back. The last goal of the game came from Stenmoen with just over a minute left, but the Wildcats could not bury the game tying goal.
Wagner
The second game of the day against Wagner was a tough one for Villanova as they couldn't get much going from beginning to end.
Wagner opened up an 11-2 lead at half and then would outscore the Wildcats 9-1 in the third which gave them a 20-3 lead and it would end up 26-5.
Paris Huffman led Villanova with two goals while Stenmoen,
Kaysie Stuba, and
Caitlin O'Leary all chipped in a goal of their own.
Next weekend will be the next time Water Polo is in action as they head to Erie to take on McKendree, Penn State Behrend, Gannon, and Mercyhurst.
