Men's Lacrosse to Open BIG EAST Play Saturday vs. Marquette

Facing Off:  Villanova will open conference play this weekend when the Marquette Golden Eagles come to Villanova Stadium.  Game time on Saturday is set for 1:00 P.M. and can be seen on Nova Nation All-Access. 

Matchup History:  Saturday marks the 8th meeting all-time between the Wildcats and Golden Eagles.  Villanova has won four of the previous meetings including the last two.  In 2018 Villanova defeated Marquette 14-9 on the road and were led offensively by Keegan Khan who scored seven goals.

A Look at Villanova:  The Wildcats are coming off back-to-back road wins against Fairfield and Brown.  Villanova came back to beat the Stags 12-8 and held onto their early lead against the Bears to win 10-9.  After scoring a career high four goals during last Saturday's win Corey McManus picked up his first BIG EAST weekly award earning Attack Player of the Week.   

Villanova's Offense: Connor Kirst is the Wildcats leading scorer with 20 at the end of non-conference play.  Keegan Khan has 15 assists on the season along with nine goals for a total of 24 points.  Rookie Matt Campbell has 25 points this season on 19 goals and six assists.  McManus has 14 points while Eric Overbay has 12. 

Villanova's Defense:  TJ Comizio is now fourth all-time in career caused turnover and this season he leads the team with 15 this season.  Comizio also has 42 ground balls and five points.  Dan Fisher and Zack Ornstein have been sharing time at the faceoff dot and on the season are a combined 123-for-229 (.537) with 50 ground balls.  In goal has been freshman Will Vitton, who now has a 11.10 goals against average and .476 save percentage. 

A Look at Marquette: The Golden Eagles picked up a BIG EAST win last weekend on the road against the Georgetown Hoyas last weekend.  Marquette has won their last three games and have five wins on the season.  Tanner Thomson has 24 points this season with a team high 19 goals.  Sophomore John Hulsman has become the Golden Eagles starting goalkeeper this season.  In over 353 minutes between the post Hulsman has a 11.02 goals against average and .458 save percentage. 

Alumni Day:  Saturday's game marks men's lacrosse annual Alumni Day.  At the end of the first quarter the 2009 team will be honored for the 10 year anniversary of the first team making the NCAA Tournament in program history.  During halftime all alumni in attendance will be honored on the field.
