CORAL GABLES, Fla.—Sophomore sprinter
Keegan Hughes (Malvern, Pa.) and graduate student
Troy Gallen (Glen Mills, Pa.) had strong races in the 400 meter hurdles and the 100 meters, respectively, as Villanova wrapped up two days of competition at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on Saturday afternoon. There were four athletes in action for the Wildcats at Cobb Stadium on the second day of the meet.
Hughes was the runner-up in the 400 meter hurdles with a season-best time of 53.29. It is the third-best time of his career and sets Hughes up for continued success over the course of the outdoor campaign. His two fastest races as a freshman last year came at the Penn Relays and the BIG EAST Championships, and he came into the season as the defending conference champion in the event.
Also performing well for Villanova on Saturday afternoon was Gallen, who recorded a personal best time of 10.62 in the 100 meters and also posted a time of 21.96 in the 200 meters. He made his outdoor season debut in the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton last week, and came back strong in his second outing in the last eight days.
Senior
Harry Purcell (Dublin, Ireland) came in third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.26 to round out the running events on the Wildcats schedule. Freshman
Malik Cunningham (St. Andrew, Jamaica) finished eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.81 meters.
