Women’s Soccer to Add Transfer Sam Rosette from Virginia

Villanova, Pa.- Villanova women's soccer head coach Chris McLain and his staff welcome Sam Rosette for the 2019 season from the University of Virginia.  Rosette, who will graduate from Virginia in May will come to Villanova with two years of eligibility.

"Sam is a dynamic forward with great ACC experience and is an absolute soccer junkie," shared McLain. "She lives it, breathes it, and she sleeps total professionalism. We have been fortunate to attract some of these hungry players and she epitomize the culture we have instilled in this program. She is the perfect example of what type of player this program is looking for. As an upperclassman, she will help lead this young team from Day 1 of her arrival."

Rosette saw action in 22 games over her three seasons at Virginia.   During the 2018 season the forward saw action in eight matches and netted her first career goal against Syracuse.  In 2017 Rosette played 200 minutes on the pitch following a injury early in the 2016 season that limited her to only action in one match.

McLain continued, "Villanova has become a home for some big-time transfers. First it was with Rebecca Gartner from Baylor, then Emma Firenze from Ohio State, Kristen Vinciguerra from UCONN, Ciara Terabasso from Rutgers, and now Sam Rosette from University of Virginia. Wish we could say it was because of the resurgence of the program but to be honest, Villanova academically has made this a destination location. Mix that with a program where you can make an immediate impact and be a part of something special, perfect recipe for what we have going on over here."

Prior to college Rosette played for the NJ Stallions Dynamites and was a two-time NPL National Champion.  At Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy she earned varsity letters in both soccer and track & field.  During her senior season she scored 53 goals and had 17 assists for 123 points making her the top goal scorer in New York state that season.  In track & field she was a part of the 4x800 team that broke the school record.

Rosette chose Villanova because, "it is an incredible place to further my goals both academically and athletically. I am so excited to be a part of the Master's in Public Administration program while also playing on the Women's Soccer team. The culture of hard work and dedication to the Women's Soccer program, its growth, and its goals is so clear when interacting with my future teammates and coaches, which is so exciting and motivating, and exactly the environment I want to be in. The players were so welcoming, and the amount of faith and confidence the coaches have shown to have in me and their players individually makes me feel like I am absolutely in the right place and can achieve whatever goals I set for myself here. I can't wait to get to work in an environment that values the hard work and growth of its players and push towards our goals!"
