Wildcats Comeback Falls Short Against Princeton

Wildcats travel to Delaware this weekend for three game series

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – The Villanova baseball team was defeated by the Princeton Tigers 6-4 on sunny and windy Wednesday afternoon at Villanova Ballpark. The Wildcats scored four runs late but couldn't make up for the early runs scored by the Tigers.

John Heilenbach went two for three, one RBI and one walk. It was the first time this season he has had multiple hits in back to back games.

Princeton started the game with singles in a row to load the bases. The next batter reached after a fielding error by the pitcher to score the first run for the Tigers. Nolan then grounded out to the first baseman to score the second run of the day. With one out and runners of second and third, Beckett singled to left field scoring the runner on third but the runner on second was thrown out at the plate.

The Tigers added to their lead by scoring one run in the second, fifth and sixth to lead 6-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, the first two Wildcat batters walked and then Nick Lorusso was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A double play groundout scored the Wildcats' first run of the day. Doug deMarrais then beat the throw from third base for an infield single to score Pat O'Neill from third to make it 6-2 Princeton.

Nick Lorusso was hit by another pitch to begin the bottom of the eighth for Villanova. JP Radvany singled to right field and Colin Bergh walked to load the bases. Ryan Toohers hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field to score Lorusso. An infield single by Heilenbach scored Radvany to make it 6-4 Princeton.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Wildcats got one runner on base but were not able to get much going.

Villanova's next series starts on Friday April 26th as the Wildcats travel to take on the Delaware Blue Hens. The first pitch time for Friday and Saturday is 7:00 p.m. The series will conclude on Sunday with first pitch at 1:00 p.m.
