VILLANOVA, Pa. – Readers thumbing through the Dec. 21, 1920 edition of the Philadelphia Inquirer sports pages would have noted headlines above stories on boxer Jack Dempsey along with items on baseball's Rogers Hornsby and Ty Cobb. Near the bottom of Page 17, another headline read: "Villanova Gets Start: Will Meet Catholic Varsity in Opening Game tonight."
That night, Villanova, led by coach Mike Saxe, knocked off Catholic University 43-40 in its first official NCAA men's basketball game at home in Alumni Gym. It was the dawn of a near century long hoops journey that has produced three NCAA national championships and generations of outstanding players and coaches.
In 2019-20, Villanova will celebrate a milestone as it commences its 100

Mark Jackson today announced a series of programming elements that will help celebrate the incredible history of the Wildcats program.
- A centennial logo featured on the Wildcats' 2019-20 game uniforms. The logo will be available on official merchandise and apparel this fall.
- A social media series featuring Villanova Basketball's 100 Greatest Moments. The series will begin next month and when all moments have been revealed, fans will be invited to vote for their all-time favorite moment. The winner will be announced in March.
- Special historic video features over the course of the season. These features will also be included on each of the 10 episodes of "Inside Villanova Basketball with Jay Wright," which airs locally on NBCSN Philly.
- An opportunity for fans to share their favorite memories. A portion of the favorite moments will be featured as the 2019-20 season unfolds.
- A centennial celebration gala in Spring 2020. The date, time and location are to be determined.

Villanova returns three members of its starting lineup from a 2018-19 campaign that included 26 victories, BIG EAST regular season and Tournament championships and the program's 14
th NCAA Tournament appearance in the past 15 seasons. The complete centennial season schedule will be released in September.
