VILLANOVA, Pa.—
The men's and women's cross country teams will open their 2019 season on Friday when they compete in the Main Line Invitational in nearby Haverford.  The meet will feature a women's three-mile race beginning at 4:45 p.m. and a four-mile men's race which gets underway at 5:30 p.m.  Admission is free for the meet, which takes place on the Alumni Course on the Haverford College campus.

This early in the season, the local meet offers Villanova a chance to measure its fitness level as the team prepares for the bulk of the season still to come.  Both the men and women are nationally-ranked for the Wildcats to begin the 2019 campaign, with the men's team sitting at No. 25 and the women checking in at No. 30 in this week's United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll.

A limited squad of Villanova men is expected to be in action on Friday evening as the team prepares for its first difficult test in Oregon next week.  The women's team should have a larger contingent of runners in action as a result of having two weeks before their next competition at the Paul Short Run in early October.

Fans who wish to follow the action at the Main Line Invitational can check Twitter (@NovaTrackXC) for live updates during and after each race.  A full recap will be posted on Friday night following the meet's conclusion.  For more on the Wildcats, click on the links at the top of this release for the men's and women's season previews.
