VILLANOVA’S AMOS EARNS NATIONAL HONORS

--The Junior Corner Helped The Wildcats To A Season Opening Win --

Villanova University junior corner Jaquan Amos (Philadelphia, Pa./ Northeast High School) has been named both the FCS Stats National Defensive Player of the Week and the CAA Defensive Player of the Week. Amos earns the honors for his play in Villanova's 34-14 season opening win at No. 13 Colgate on Aug. 24.
 
In the victory, Amos tallied seven tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception that was returned 27 yards for a touchdown. This was the third defensive touchdown of his Wildcat career. Amos also helped the Villanova defense hold Colgate to 288 yards of total offense (211 passing; 77 rushing).
 
Amos is currently in his third year as a starter for the Wildcats. As a sophomore last season, Amos led Villanova in total tackles with 57, including 40 solo stops.
 
In other Villanova news, the Wildcats cracked the FCS STATS Top 25 at No. 24. After not being ranked in the preseason poll, Villanova garnered 535 points to make an appearance in this week's Top 25.
 
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, Sept. 7, when Lehigh visits Villanova Stadium for the home opener. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
