With Villanova having just closed out the 50
th year of women's athletics, Athletic Director
Mark Jackson and Senior Woman Administrator
Lynn Tighe are pleased to announce a bold new initiative that will build on the momentum from this past year and continue to celebrate and support HER.
The Women's Athletics Empowerment Initiative will highlight the rich history of female student-athletes at Villanova, showcasing stories both past and present, ensuring they reach well into the future. The initiative will look to raise $1 million to further support the 13 varsity women's teams and the individuals currently defining Villanova's women's athletics.
"Villanova has a tremendous history of success in women's athletics. We've had Rhodes Scholars, Olympians, Academic All-Americans, and National Champions all proudly wear The V," said Jackson. "This initiative will build upon that foundation of success and continue to elevate the future of women's athletics at Villanova."
As an alumna of the women's basketball program, this initiative is especially impactful for
Lynn Tighe. "I have been thrilled to partner with Mark on this initiative," said Tighe. "The momentum for the Women's Athletics Empowerment Initiative began back in November when we hosted a wonderful reception for our current and former student-athletes. The energy of that dinner, the celebration of moments throughout the past 50 years, and this initiative, are a testament to the University's and our department's commitment to providing the best experience for our female student-athletes."
Funds raised through this the Women's Athletics Empowerment Initiative will continue to enhance each women's program, including:
- Renovation and updates of locker rooms and playing fields
- Elevation of part-time coaches to full-time coaches
- Enhancement and growth of women's athletic endowments
- Increase of operational budgets, allowing for more increased travel amongst the women's programs
