Gillespie Tabbed Big Five Player of the Week

Also part of the BIG EAST Conference Honor Roll

Villanova's Collin Gillespie earned some recognition Monday for his efforts in helping lead the Wildcats past Marquette on Dec. 23.

The senior guard from Huntingdon Valley, Pa., was selected as Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Week and was also a part of the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

The Archbishop Wood High School alumnus led the 'Cats with 22 points in last Wednesday night's 85-68 victory at Marquette. With the Wildcats struggling to contain the Golden Eagles early, Gillespie's offense helped keep the Wildcats close. Villanova eventually grabbed a 36-30 halftime advantage before pulling away in the second half.

Gillespie finished with 22 points, four assists and zero turnovers. He connected on 6-of-11 attempts from beyond the 3-point arc.

This is the second Big Five Player of the Week award for Gillespie in the last three weeks. Teammate Jeremiah Robinson-Earl was honored by the Big Five last week.

Villanova rose to No. 4 in this week's Associated Press Top 25 and held steady at No. 3 in the weekly USA Today Coaches poll.

The Wildcats are currently in a pause of basketball activities due to positive COVID-19 test results among its Tier 1 staff announced on Sunday.
