NEW YORK—Senior sprinter
Trudy-Ann Williamson (Kingston, Jamaica) was named the BIG EAST Women's Track Athlete of the Week in an announcement made by the conference office on Thursday morning. Williamson tied her own school record and lifetime best mark in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.37 at the 113
th NYRR Millrose Games last weekend.
This is the second career weekly honor for Williamson and her first for the indoor season. She was the lone collegiate entry in the 60 meters at the famed Millrose Games, which took place at The Armory last Saturday afternoon. Williamson ran against a field that included six-time Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix representing the United States and World U20 gold medalist Briana Williams from Jamaica, as well as former collegiate national champion Hannah Cunliffe and All-Americans Javianne Oliver and Morolake Akinosun.
Williamson was the fastest of the eight competitors in the race coming out of the starting blocks and more than held her own as she surged down the infield in lane eight. Her time of 7.37 at the finish line matched the school record which she originally set on February 24, 2018 in the final at the BIG EAST Championships. This season the mark leads the BIG EAST by a margin of 0.15 seconds and is also tied for 37
th on the national performance list in the 60 meters.
Since the start of her collegiate career Williamson has won 18 of the 22 races she has run in the 60 meters, including both preliminary heats and final sections of the event. She owns the 16 fastest times in school history and is the Wildcats only athlete to break 7.5 seconds. Williamson is a five-time BIG EAST champion and a seven-time All-BIG EAST performer during her Villanova career.
This is the first weekly honor of the season for the Wildcats women's team. Villanova will be back in action this weekend with groups of athletes competing at both the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston and the FastTrack National Invitational in New York.
