A Look at Villanova: The Wildcats are receiving votes this week after falling to the No. 1 Penn State Nittany Lions in their season opener. Offensively the Wildcats were led by hat tricks from
Keegan Khan and
Matt Campbell while
Patrick Kennedy on defense had four ground balls and caused two turnovers. Sophomore
Will Vitton got the start in goal and registered 12 saves in the season opener.
A Look at Yale: The Bulldogs will open their season for the fourth straight year against the Wildcats. In the Ivy League Men's Lacrosse Preseason Poll Yale was picked to win the league while five players were named Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American's. Last season the Bulldogs fell to Virginia in the national championship game 13-9, this was the second straight season Yale advanced to the championship game. In 2018 Yale won their first national championships.
Series History: Villanova holds the all-time series record 2-1 against the Yale Bulldogs. The Wildcats have won the last two meetings, both in overtime, and the Bulldogs won the first game in 2017 inside Villanova Stadium. Last season when Villanova defeated Yale the Bulldogs were ranked No. 1, this marked the first win in program history over a top ranked team.
Watch List: For the second straight season senior
Connor Kirst has been named to the Tewaarton Watch List. Kirst joins 49 other top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse. The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States.
Khan to 100: Junior
Keegan Khan is two career points away from reaching his 100
th. When Khan reaches the milestone, he will be the 26
th player in program history to do so. Overall the junior attackman has netted 54 goals and dished out 44 assists. In 2018 he was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and has been named to the conference second team twice.
Debut on the X: Freshman
Justin Coppola took 22 of the Wildcats 32 faceoffs against Penn State last weekend. The rookie won nine of the matchups and collected three ground balls.
