Villanova Set for Tournament at Campbell

Villanova, Pa. – Villanova heads to Buies Creek, NC for three games this weekend against Maine, Campbell and Purdue. The games are being played at Jim Perry Stadium on the campus of Campbell University. The Wildcats are looking to build on a 1-2 performance at Arizona State in the opening weekend.

Villanova meets Maine on Friday at 1:00 p.m. ET. Villanova is 5-4 all-time against the Black Bears, in a series that dates back to 1954, but the teams have not met since 2007. The last meeting was part of the Papa John's Challenge in Palm Beach, Fla. and ended as a 7-5 victory for the Wildcats.

Maine is 0-3 so far this season after being swept in the opening weekend at Winthrop. The projected pitching matchup looks to be Jimmy Kingsbury (0-1) vs Maine's RHP Nick Sinacola (0-1).

The Wildcats play the hosting Campbell Camels on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The two programs have never met on the diamond.

Campbell opened the season going 1-2 at No. 23 South Alabama. The expected pitching matchup for Saturday is Gordon Graceffo (1-0) against Campbell's LHP Kevin Westlake (1-0).

The weekend trip concludes with a matchup against Purdue on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. This will be just the second meeting between the programs, with the previous coming during the BIG EAST-BIG 10 Challenge in St. Petersburg, Fla. on Feb. 26, 2010. Villanova won the matchup 13-5.

Purdue opened the season going 3-1 in a four-game series against Hofstra in Sanford, Fla.

Heading south won't give the visiting teams much of a break from the cold, as North Carolina is forecasted to receive snow on Thursday ahead of a clear, but chilly weekend. Friday's high is 39 degrees with the weekend warming to the low 50s.
