Mary Gedaka (Mullica Hill, N.J.) has been named both the BIG EAST Player of the week and the Philadelphia Big 5 Co-Player of the Week, while redshirt freshman
Maddy Siegrist (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) garnered a spot the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Gedaka helped Villanova to a 2-0 week with wins over Marquette and No. 12 DePaul by shooting 64.0 percent from the field and averaging 19.0 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per contest and 3.0 assists per game. After scoring 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting on Friday versus Marquette, she tallied 17 points (7-of-12 from the floor), eight rebounds and four assists in the win over DePaul. For the year, Gedaka is averaging 17.4 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per contest. She currently leads the BIG EAST in minutes played (38.4 minutes per game) and she ranks fifth in the league in scoring.
Siegrist averaged 17.0 points per game and 9.0 rebounds per contest in the two wins. Her best effort of the week came in Sunday's upset win over DePaul when she registered her BIG EAST leading 11
th double-double with 29 points and 13 rebounds. Also, in the win, Siegrist set the Villanova freshman record for points in a season (currently has 529 points). The previous mark of 504 was set by Shelly Pennefather during the 1983-84 season.
Villanova returns to action on Friday, Feb. 28, with a road game at Creighton. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., eastern time. The Wildcats are currently 16-11 overall and 10-6 in conference action.
