Moro Picks up IWLCA National Player of the Week Award

This is the first time that a Wildcat has been selected for a IWLCA National Weekly Award

VILLANOVA, Pa. – On Tuesday afternoon, the IWLCA, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, announced that Villanova sophomore Alexa Moro had been selected as its National Defensive Player of the Week.

In Villanova's 12-9 win on the road over No. 16 Navy on Saturday, Moro recorded a .571 save percentage on 32 shots faced. She made a season-high 12 saves and limited the Midshipmen to just nine goals in the matchup.

Navy had been averaging 16 goals per game going into the matchup and hadn't been held to a single-digit score since May 4, 2019 against then-No.11 Loyola.

This was the Wildcats' first win over Navy since March 24, 2009, when the team pulled out a 15-14 overtime victory over the Midshipmen. Saturday's win for Villanova also broke a five-game losing streak to Navy.

This season, Moro has started all three games and has made a combined 27 saves, recording a season save percentage average of .443.

Moro was also named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

This is the first time that a Wildcat has been selected for an IWLCA Weekly Award.
