VILLANOVA, Pa. – After falling to No. 13 Princeton on Wednesday in the home opener, the Wildcats (2-2) are looking to get back into the win column on Saturday when they host local opponent Drexel.
The game will take place at 1 p.m. in the Villanova Stadium.
BY THE NUMBERS
Junior attack Brittany Bruno leads the team with 18 points off 12 goals and six assists, scoring a combined eight goals in the last two matches combined. On Wednesday versus the No. 13 Princeton Tigers, Bruno recorded a team and season-high five goals, just one goal shy of her career high.
Senior attack Katie Comerford is close behind with 16 points from 12 goals and four assists. Opposing defenses have held her to just four goals and one assist in the last two contests combined, after she averaged four goals a game to start the season.
Freshman Catherine Field is second on the team in assists with five, only one behind Bruno.
Caroline Curnal, a sophomore transfer from Lafayette, leads the team in draw controls at 18 through her first four games as a Wildcat.
On defense, sophomore Sydney Frank and senior Maggie Jennings lead the team in groundballs with 10 each, and freshman Nina Mainello is not far behind with nine of her own.
Frank also has a team-high 10 caused turnovers, leading the BIG EAST in the category.
LAST MATCHUP
Villanova last faced the Dragons on the road in Philadelphia at Vidas Field last season, defeating Drexel 13-9.
In the matchup, then-redshirt senior Devin Hassinger had a game-high four goals while then-junior Kim McDonough had a hat trick. Brittany Bruno, Katie Comerford and Grainger Rosati also scored.
The Wildcats won the draw control battle 18-6, outshot the Dragons 26-19 and tied with eight saves a team.
The Dragons hold the 13-9 advantage in the all-time series record between the two schools.
The last time Drexel recorded a win over the Wildcats was in 2017, when Villanova was edged out by a final score of 8-7.
SCOUTING THE DRAGONS
Three games into the season, junior midfielder Karson Harris has emerged as the Dragon's offensive leader. She has already scored 10 goals and three assists for 13 total points.
She is followed closely behind by teammate Colleen Grady who has 12 points off six goals and six assists.
In goal for Drexel is junior Zoe Bennett. This season she has recorded a .468 save percentage on 79 shots faced, allowing 37 goals.
