VILLANOVA, Pa. – After five weeks of tournament play to open the season, Villanova finally will play a one-off game on Feb. 28. The Wildcats will travel to New Jersey this Friday to take on No. 20 Princeton at 7:00 p.m. The Tigers will be the eighth ranked opponent that Villanova plays this season.
The Wildcats are coming off a 1-1 outing at the Courtney Fisher Invite at Marist. After dropping a close contest to Iona, 14-12, Villanova bounced back against Mercyhurst (DII), 16-11.
Kaysie Stuba and
Charlotte Curran lead the offense for the Wildcats, combining for 31 of the team's 70 goals on the year.
Emily Morrissey and
Amanda Rice have each added nine while
Malia Gacutan has netted seven scores. Defensively, Villanova has generated 39 steals this year, led by Gacutan's seven. However, 12 players have registered at least one takeaway.
Princeton is 6-3 overall, but have won their last four contests, including a 7-5 victory against No. 22 San Diego State on Feb. 15. Over that stretch, the Tigers are outscoring the opposition, 44-26 and have not allowed over 10 goals in a match.
Like the Wildcats, Princeton's top scorers have combined for 31 goals this year. Laura Larkin has 15 scores, but has also helped others find the back of the net, recording 13 assists.
Villanova is 0-5 against Princeton since 2015, but will be looking to get in the win column with a positive result on Friday.
