VILLANOVA, Pa. — The Villanova water polo team fell to No. 12 Princeton 14-9 Thursday night at the Villanova Swim Complex.
Riley Hull led the 'Cats (7-5) on the day with four goals, followed by
Anna Painter with two and
Layla Canales,
Coco Jones,
Sara Withers and
Ella Mattocks, who each had one on the day.
Hull now leads the team in goals with 31 on the season. The sophomore also picked up three goals and drew four exclusions.
Painter led the team in steals, picking up four in the contest.
Villanova took the lead early in the contest, with Withers and Canales finding the back of the net to take a 2-1 lead into the second quarter.
Hull scored early in the second quarter before Princeton (10-0) scored three unanswered. Mattocks scored in the final minutes of the second quarter to make it a 4-4 game heading into halftime.
The Tigers put some distance in the score in the third quarter, scoring six goals to take the lead. The 'Cats scored twice in the quarter via Hull and Painter to bring the score to 10-6 heading into the final quarter.
Painter scored and Hull scored twice in the fourth quarter and Princeton scored four to bring the contest to its final score of 14-9.
Gracin Kerry played the entire game in net, saving five in 18 attempts. The senior goalie also had an assist and steal.
