The final Associated Press college basketball poll was released on March 18. The Villanova Wildcats were ranked at No. 10.
Villanova completed its regular season with a 24-7 overall record. It earned a share of the BIG EAST regular season title for the sixth time in the last seven seasons on the final day of the regular season with a 70-69 victory at Georgetown. Nova posted a 13-5 mark in league play, tying Creighton and Seton Hall for the top spot. Saddiz Bey was named a unanimous choice to the All-BIG EAST first team while
Collin Gillespie was named to the second team.
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl was the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and classmate
Justin Moore was a unanimous choice to the BIG EAST All-Freshman squad.
The Wildcats were tied for ninth in the final USA Today Coaches poll, announced earlier this week. It was tied with Creighton at No. 9 in that count. Last season, the Wildcats finished at No. 20 in the final USA Today Coaches poll. They closed at No. 1 in 2017-18 after claiming the NCAA national championship.
Villanova began the campaign at No. 10 in the pre-seaosn polls. They remained ranked for every one of the 20 weeks polls were released in 2019-20.
Since the start of the 2013-14 regular season, the Wildcats have posted a record of 205-38 .843). It has averaged 29.2 victories a season in that span.
"The growth of our group throughout the season was truly remarkable," stated Villanova head coach
Jay Wright in reflecting on the 2019-20 season which ended when the BIG EAST and NCAA Tournaments were canceled due to the corona virus pandemic. "We are sad to see the season come to such an abrupt end. We will always be proud of this group and together we grow stronger. Please to continue to pay for each other and our courageous health care workers"
