VILLANOVA, Pa. — It has been a week since Villanova's women's water polo team had been in the pool for a competition, but that comes to an end on March 6. The Wildcats will be heading west for a four-game tournament featuring games against Redlands, Chapman, La Verne and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Villanova opens with a match against Redlands, who come into the tournament with an overall record of 3-5. The Bulldogs have dropped their last two matches, most recently on March 4 against La Verne. It has been three years since Redlands and Villanova have squared off. The Wildcats took that match, 14-4.
The second opponent on March 6 is Chapman, who is winless on the year. At 0-8, the Panthers are averaging 7.5 goals per game, but have allowed double digit goals in every contest this season. They played Villanova in 2018 and fell to the Wildcats, 10-8.
After starting the season 0-3, La Verne has reeled off six straight wins. During the streak they have topped 20 goals in a game twice and are outscoring opponents 97-45. The Leopards last played Villanova in 2019, a match that they lost, 12-8.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps comes into the tournament with a 3-5 overall record, most recently losing to Pomona-Pitzer, 6-4, on March 4. Villanova has played the Athenas previously in 2018 when they fell, 12-11 in overtime.
The Wildcats take on Redlands at 2:15 p.m. ET, followed by the match with Chapman at 6:00 p.m. ET.
